Introduction to the School of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering
School of Materials and Metallurgical Engineering (SMME) is affiliated to the Guizhou Institute of Technology (GIT), which established in 2013. The faculty of SMME is relatively young and well-structured, including 7 professors, 21 associated professors, respectively, namely the percentage of senior title is 82%, in addition, most of them graduated from well-known domestic and international universities, in addition to 74% of them owned a doctoral degree. And, there are 3 persons titled as 100- and 1000-level science and technology innovation talents in Guizhou province, excellent youth science and technology talent in Guizhou province, and 1 person awarded with Guizhou provincial youth science and technology award, respectively. The SMME offers three individual undergraduate majors, including material science and engineering, new energy materials and devices, and welding technology and engineering. Especially, the material science and engineering major is nominated as a provincial key discipline. The total number of students in school is 1015.
The SMME also founded several provincial scientific research platforms, which including a key laboratory of preparation technology for light metal materials, a 2011 collaborative innovation center for special functional materials, a talent base for green process industrial technology, a provincial science and technology innovation team for aviation light metal materials and welding technology. At the same time, the SMME also attaches great importance to school-enterprise collaboration, established a great relationship with many aviation enterprises and research institutes, especially in industrial-academic-research cooperation, which has greatly promoted the internship and employment of graduates.
Since the establishment of the SMME, it has undertaken more than 20 national and 60 provincial scientific research projects, the research funding reached about 20 million RMB, and has published more than 200 academic papers and 5 literary works. Under the support of those research projects, the undergraduates could participate in a variety of research, innovation and entrepreneurial activities. In 2017, there are 7 national innovation projects independently undertaken by students, in addition tomore than 95 other projects.
For the needs of economic and social development of Guizhou Province, the SMME plays an active role of “talent training, scientific research, service society, cultural inheritance and innovation”, in addition to serve the economic transformation and upgrading of Guizhou Province.
Material Science and Engineering
The target is to cultivate more high-quality applied talents, with all-around development of morality, intelligence, physics, aesthetics and labor education. The educational objectives mainly focus on understanding the basic principles, knowledge and skills of material science and engineering, in addition to analysis, express and solve engineering and technical problems. After graduation, students could improve their practical, self-studying, social communication, organization, management, and teamwork spirit abilities, and hold a potential for engaging in the scientific research, production and management in the fields of material design, preparation and forming of materials.

New Energy Materials and Devices
In order to connect the local advantageous industries in Guizhou Province with the national strategies of China and promote the development of the new energy industries, the aim is to cultivate the comprehensive development of morality, intelligence, physics, aesthetics and labor education high-quality applied engineer, with a solid subject foundations in physics, chemistry, electronics, machinery, and etc. The graduates could obtain a systematically education in the fields of new energy materials and devices, power generation, energy storage, power consumption, and energy conversion, in addition to the design, manufacture, testing techniques of emerging materials and devices.

Welding Technology and Engineering
To establish good innovative concept, deep humanistic quality, excellent professional ethics and teamwork spirit, the target of this major is to cultivate the senior engineer, with a solid fundamental and specialized knowledge of welding technology and engineering. The graduates could obtain the abilities to solve the welding engineering problems, especially in the fields of aerospace, energy transportation, electric power and other related fields.
